We had a showdown between McDonalds and Burger King tonight for dinner. We have both within 2 miles of each other so the girls and I rode through both drive thrus. The McD drive thru line had 2 cars in it and took a little bit longer than BK, which had no other vehicles waiting/ordering. We ordered as close as possible to the same items from both. This excluded the Big Mac from competition as it has no equivalent.
From McD we ordered the Original Chicken Sandwich, the Big N' Tasty Burger, fries and a rootbeer. From BK we ordered the Original Chicken Sandwich, Whopper, fries and a dr. pepper. Burger King was more expensive. McDonalds came with ketchup and salt.
Our first taste was between the fries. Go potatoes. The McD fries were a plenty, with potato and salt. Their claim is the amount of salt they contain. Amazing this stuff is legal. The BK fries had a much stronger presents of potato than did the McD fry. All in all we all prefer the McD fries with the salt. The BK fries just taste weird.
We followed the fries with the whopper/tasty battle. I cut each sandwich into quarters and served one quarter of each sandwich to the girls and myself. There were some ingredients the girls picked out. Annika picked out the most as she isn't the biggest fan of lettuce, pickels, onions, or tomatoes. Which pretty much left the meat. This may be the best taste test afterall. However, her deduction wasn't much more than 'I like the McD one'. Elyse noticed the difference more and gave the whopper the thumbs up. I agree with Elyse, how can you beat the whopper at what it is. It's like a salad on a patty.
These aren't small sandwiches we are eating, but we continued on to the chicken sandwiches. They ate the McD one first, the the BK. I've always been a fan of the BK chicken sandwiches, but was surprised at the KFCishness of the McD sandwich. I give the nod to the McD chicken. The girls also agreed, as Elyse couldn't even finish her sample. She said it was juicier, but didn't like the taste.
During the tasting we drank the sodas. Elyse didn't know which soda she was drinking, and guessed incorrectly. The girls got rootbeer and I got the Dr. I'm a huge fan of Dr. as well as rootbeer. perhaps there is a similarity I cannot taste. Annika could tell the difference, but her sugar regions cover her tongue completely.

Overall winner McD, we never order the Big N' Tasty from McD anyway.
To wrap up the tasting we had a Big Mac. It wasn't part of the competition, but I wanted the girls to end on a high note. Even though Elyse was too full to eat her taste.
