DrupalCamp Summary
Camp is just a metaphor. We didn't really do any camping in the natural sense. Although camping in a State park and discussing/hacking Drupal would be a lot of fun. Hickory Run has awesome reception.
We did have a really nice setup at the Cira center. The new building attached to 30th Street Station. Lunch was server, a coat room was organized and RRS ran the check in table. Nice work Greg and Josh.
Nate opened with his intro to Drupal talk he gives to first time clients. He has a good presence about him and had a nice coat. I was able to listen to most of his talk because my talk was ready. Or as ready as it was going to be before I spoke. So I was able to relax and get into the talking frame of mind.
I was anticipating, looking forward to, hoping for a table to sit at. But we spoke from the podium. The room had a microphone setup for us to talk with, but it couldn't get it working without some good feedback. So I spoke loudly.
The slides were tough to see with the black text on the orange background. Nate was able to dim the lights. But the slides were more about the imagery than the text. the text was just the cues for my talk.
I ran through my talk and covered all the slides. I didn't get a lot of questions to explain what I said, but did get some good ones about implementing taxonomy.
The slides were the way to go. It let me flow through my talk and not have to type in text to slow it down. I can talk to no end if need be.
They did have to warm me with 5 minutes left to wrap things up. And I hit that without skipping a beat.
When done, I got swarmed by a pair of recruiters who had to bolt before lunch. I smiled and talked with them like I was a rock star. John Romanski and a couple other stopped up afterwards as well. A very pleasant experience. I look forward to another attempt at public speaking. Some lessons were learned for my next talk.
