Because these processes often go awry in cancer cells, the development of kinase inhibitors is a major focus of cancer research. However, these drugs can cause adverse side e ects in patients or become less e ective over time.

“These mutated kinases can act like entirely new beasts, resistant to drugs and relentlessly driving the growth of cancer,” says senior investigator Je rey R. Peterson, associate professor in the Cancer Biology Program at Fox Chase.
